The main costs

What you'll spend, item by item

Lift pass

Roughly €50-70 a day for an adult depending on the resort and the date, cheaper per day on a multi-day pass, and often free for under-6s. Grandvalira and Ordino Arcalís use dynamic pricing, so buying online in advance can save up to 15%. Detail on the lift pass guide.

Equipment hire

A full set (skis, boots, poles, helmet) is around €25-45 a day for adults and €20-30 in children's sizes, and gets cheaper for several days. You bring your own clothing.

Lessons

Optional, but the best investment if you're starting out or have only a few days. My rates are €120 (2 h), €220 (4 h) and €380 (full day), charged per lesson for up to 6 people of the same level — so in a couple or a family the cost per person drops a lot.

Accommodation and food

The widest range of all: from apartments to hotels on the piste. Self-catering is where most people save, and Andorra has plenty of options at every level.

Example budgets

Weekend + a lessonThe above plus a 4-hour lesson shared between two (€110 each)€290-370

For a family of four over 4-5 days, a realistic total is somewhere between €1,200 and €2,500 including lift passes, hire, accommodation and food, plus lessons if you book them. Under-6s usually have a free lift pass, which makes a noticeable difference.

Where to save

How to keep the cost down

  • Travel in mid-season: January or March, midweek, outside the school holidays.
  • Buy the lift pass online in advance — up to 15% cheaper than the ticket window.
  • Hire rather than buy unless you ski more than 15-20 days a year.
  • Self-catering accommodation makes the biggest difference to the total.
  • Concentrate lessons at the start so the rest of the trip is yours.
  • Share the lesson: the price is per lesson, so a 4-hour lesson for four works out at €55 each.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about the cost of skiing in Andorra

How much does a ski trip to Andorra cost?

It depends on your dates and whether you take lessons, but the main costs are the lift pass (roughly €50-70 a day), equipment hire (€25-45 a day for adults, €20-30 for children), accommodation, food and, optionally, lessons (€120 for 2 hours, €220 for 4 and €380 for a full day, per lesson rather than per person). Andorra is one of the most affordable ski destinations in Europe.

Is skiing in Andorra cheaper than the Alps?

Generally yes: lift passes, hire and lessons all cost less than in the major Alpine resorts, and the shorter transfer from Toulouse or Barcelona also reduces the total cost of the trip.

What's the most expensive part of a ski trip?

Usually accommodation and lift passes, especially in peak weeks. Equipment hire is relatively cheap, and lessons are charged per lesson rather than per person, so they're shared in a group. Adjusting your dates and choosing self-catering accommodation is where you save most.

How can I ski in Andorra on a budget?

Travel in mid-season (January or March, midweek), buy your lift pass online in advance, hire equipment rather than buying, choose self-catering accommodation and concentrate any lessons at the start of the trip so you can enjoy the rest on your own.

How much does a family ski trip to Andorra cost?

As a guide, a family of four (two adults and two children) for 4-5 days can expect somewhere between €1,200 and €2,500 including lift passes, hire, accommodation and food, plus lessons if you book them. Under-6s usually ski free, which helps a lot.

Are lessons worth including in the budget?

If you're starting from scratch or have only a few days, they're the best value item in the budget: you progress roughly twice as fast, and because the lesson is charged per group rather than per person, the cost per head drops with each person you add.
