The basics
What you need, and what you hire
To ski you need skis, boots, poles and a helmet. If you don't own kit, all of it hires easily from shops a few minutes from any Andorran resort. What you don't hire is clothing — jacket, trousers, gloves, goggles — that you bring yourself (see what to wear).
A helmet is strongly recommended for everyone and compulsory for children in lessons. If you've never skied, don't overthink the rest: a standard hire set, properly fitted, is more than enough to start.

Hire or buy
Is it worth buying your own kit?
The rule is simple. If you ski one or two weeks a year, hiring is much cheaper — and you avoid servicing, storage and paying an airline to carry a ski bag. Above roughly 15-20 days a year, owning starts to pay, boots first, because they're the most personal piece of equipment.
For beginners, hiring is almost always right: you don't yet know what kind of skiing you enjoy or what suits you, and hire kit is maintained and matched to your level.
Get this right
Five things that make hire go well
- Choose a shop near the resort you're skiing, so you're not carrying skis around.
- Book online in advance in busy weeks. It secures your sizes and usually costs less.
- Try the boots properly. This is the one that matters. They should feel firm but never painful — a badly fitted boot ruins the whole day, and most complaints on the mountain are boots, not skiing.
- Tell them your level and your weight. They set the binding release accordingly, which is a safety matter, not a formality.
- Keep the receipt. If something isn't right — a boot that pinches — you can go back and swap it.
Ask me first
I'll tell you what to hire
As an instructor I advise on kit in every lesson, so you don't overspend or end up with equipment that fights you. If you're coming to a lesson and aren't sure what to hire, message me beforehand and I'll tell you — I don't sell equipment and I have nothing to gain either way.
Common questions
Frequently asked questions about ski hire in Andorra
How much does ski hire cost in Andorra?
As a guide, a full adult set (skis, boots, poles and helmet) is around €25-30 a day for basic kit and €35-45 for higher-end equipment; children's sizes are roughly €20-30. The daily rate drops a lot when you hire for several days. These are indicative figures that vary by shop and season.
Does ski hire include a helmet?
It's usually included in a full package or added for very little. A helmet is strongly recommended for everyone and compulsory for children in lessons, so check your package includes one — and if in doubt, ask for it specifically when you book.
Should I book ski hire in advance?
In busy weeks — Christmas, February half-term, Easter — yes: booking online in advance secures your sizes and usually costs less. In mid-season you can walk in on the day at most shops.
Is it better to hire or buy ski equipment?
If you ski one or two weeks a year, hiring works out cheaper and saves you servicing, storage and lugging kit through an airport. Above roughly 15-20 days a year it starts to make sense to buy, boots first since they're the most personal item. For beginners, hiring is almost always the right call.
Where is the best place to hire skis in Andorra?
A shop close to the resort you're skiing, so you're not carrying kit around. The base villages — La Massana, Soldeu, Pas de la Casa, El Tarter — all have shops a few minutes from the lifts. Booking online secures sizes in peak weeks.
What equipment do children need?
Skis, boots and a helmet (compulsory in lessons), fitted to their height and weight; the youngest children don't use poles at all. Hire shops carry proper children's kit and adjust it there. Waterproof clothing in layers you bring yourself.
